If your bike is stolen in Germany, it’s important to act fast. You’ll need to file a police report (“Anzeige”) before submitting your insurance claim in your Feather account.

How do I file a police report?

You can report the theft:

  • In person at your local police station, ideally in the area where the theft occurred

  • Online, using your state’s Onlinewache portal or using the Federal Police overview for links to local options. You can also find some information here on how to file a police report online in some of the main cities in Germany.

To file the report, you'll need the following:

  • Frame number (Rahmennummer) or serial number

  • Brand, model, and color of your bike

  • Date, time, and location of the theft

  • Lock type and how/where the bike was secured

  • Photos of your bike

  • Proof of purchase or receipt (if available)

What confirmation do I need?

Once you've submitted the report, request or download the official confirmation, usually called the Anzeige. Please note that we don’t need the full investigation file, just the summary confirming the details you reported to the police. This is a standard process and something they can print or email to you without any special approval.

Some police stations might only provide a file number, but we’ll need the summary to move forward with your bike theft claim.

If you are unable to provide only the report/file number, and not a copy of the full details reported to the police, this will impact the processing time. While possible, this requires involving a lawyer and can delay your claim from 6 weeks up to 6 months. Your claim will be on hold during that time.
