When submitting a claim for anything related to your bike - whether that be for theft, damage or simple wear & tear repairs - you'll require your frame number. This is requested during the sign up process for your bike insurance policy, but you do have the option of providing it later.
Your frame number (sometimes called a serial number) is a unique sequence of numbers generally between 6 - 10 digits long, and is essential for manufacturers, insurance providers, and the police to be able to properly identify your individual bike. This is usually located on the frame of your bike, and is a mandatory piece of information required to be able to identify and prove ownership, and to process any claims submitted for your bicycle. You might be able to locate the frame number on your invoice as well. In German it is listed as the Rahmennummer, sometimes shortened to Rahmen Nm, so look for that on the invoice. Without this number, the insurance provider will not be able to provide any reimbursement for expenses relating to your bike.
There are sometimes bikes produced without a frame number. In these cases, you would be obliged to have your bike coded within one month of the establishment of the insurance in order to be eligible for any reimbursement for claims later submitted. This can be done at a police station, an official retailer, or at the Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad Club e. V. (ADFC). After coding, the receipt with the identification number must be submitted to Feather to include with your bike insurance policy, and this number would be used in place of the usual required frame number.
In summary - your claim will not be eligible for a payout without your frame number. A claim will be considered incomplete, and cannot be processed without this. We recommend providing your frame number as early as possible when signing up for bike insurance to avoid any complications with claims that you may need to submit in the future.
