How do I use my private health insurance with Feather?

Your coverage explained: all you need to know about using your coverage.

Confirmation of Coverage

The documents below will be in your account once your coverage is confirmed. Simply let us know if you need others.

  • Confirmation of Coverage

  • Letter for German Employers according to §257 and §61

  • Tax information: automatically uploaded during tax season.


Payment

  • Monthly Payment

    The total amount is deducted from your bank account on the 1st of the month. It is due once your coverage is confirmed and active. If you are employed, your employer will pay back their share to you with the monthly payroll.

  • Monthly bonuses and cashback

    If you applied for one of our long-term plans, you are eligible for cashback and bonuses. Short-term plans don't offer bonuses or cashback.
    ​You're likely on a short-term plan if you don't have an EU citizenship or permanent residency in Germany, and you've lived in Germany for less than 4 years.


Using your Coverage

  • Digital health insurance card

    Once your coverage is activated, you will find a digital insurance card in your account. Simply show it to the doctor before your appointment. You won't receive a physical health card.

  • Coverage details

    You can rely on the coverage details you have downloaded during the application process. If you cannot find them, our team can help.

  • Reimbursement for medical bills 

    If you have any medical bills, simply upload them in the "claims" tab in your account. Most bills are processed within 1-3 weeks. The status of your bill then changes to "closed". You'll then find a document explaining the reimbursement. Learn more in our deep dive.


Changing your Insurance Plan

  • Changing your coverage

    You may want to downgrade or upgrade your coverage at some point. Simply let us know. Within a day, you'll receive the new quote and coverage details, as well as step-by-step guidance to apply for the new coverage.

  • Adding family members

    If your spouse is working, they can apply here. If you want to add a non-working spouse or your children, you can apply for them here.


Canceling

You can cancel the coverage in your account. Cancelation periods may apply.
