How payment works for private health insurance

When is the payment due?

  • 1st payment: due once your coverage is confirmed and active. If your policy start date is in the past, the payment is due once your coverage is confirmed.

  • Any other payments: Due on the 1st of each month.

Direct debit (recommended)

You can set up direct debit during your application or anytime in your Feather account. If you're behind on payments, you'll need to clear the balance before direct debit can start. We recommend using a European bank account to avoid issues.

Why we recommend it: If your plan offers a cashback, you only get it while the direct debit is active. Cashbacks do not apply to any periods where the payment is made manually.

Manual bank transfers

You can also pay manually. Use the details below and include your policy number from your account, so we can match your payment.

  • IBAN: DE24 6005 0101 0001 1144 45

  • BIC: SOLADEST600

  • Recipient: Hallesche

  • Message: Use for PKV <your 8-digit policy number>, <your name>

If you’re employed in Germany

You’ll pay the full monthly cost yourself. Your employer will reimburse their share (usually 50%) as part of your salary.

Once your policy is active, you’ll find a Letter for Employer in your Feather account. Share it with HR—your company needs it to start sending you their part of the payment.

Consequences of late payment

  • If the 1st payment isn’t made within 2 weeks, the coverage is canceled.

  • If the 1st payment is made but multiple payments are missed after that, coverage components may be canceled.

  • Late payment fees apply.
