What's the difference between GAP coverage and new-for-old replacement?
GAP coverage and new-for-old replacement are 2 different things.
New-for-old replacement is part of standard Full Comprehensive plan. If your car is written off within 24 months of first registration, we pay the original new purchase price instead of its depreciated market value, however you paid for the car.
GAP coverage is an optional add-on that only matters if your car is financed or leased. If the market-value payout is lower than what you still owe on your loan or lease, GAP covers the shortfall after your Full Comprehensive settlement. It isn't available if you own the car outright, and it doesn't cover overdue payments, registration costs, or a separately financed electric car battery.
What's the trade-off with the Approved Garage Network (Werkstattbindung)?
Werkstattbindung lowers your premium in exchange for having Comprehensive-covered repairs done at one of our partner garages. We handle the repair logistics, but you can't choose your own garage or dealer.
If you go outside the partner network, or request settlement on an outside quote without repairing the car, your Comprehensive excess increases by €300. This doesn't affect liability claims, and glass repairs done by a recommended workshop still waive the excess.
You can't combine Werkstattbindung with Telematics.
How does Telematics work?
Telematics is a free add-on that lowers your premium by up to 30% based on how safely you drive. You get an automatic 10% discount for signing up in your first year, and we calculate your full discount within your first 25 hours of driving. The discount can only reduce your premium, and your score never changes your level of coverage. After signing up, you install a small box in your car and connect the companion app, which tracks speed, road type, time of day, braking, and cornering. The app also shows your live score, lets you add other drivers, and includes a fuel price finder.
You can't combine Telematics with Werkstattbindung.
