What do liability, Teilkasko, and Vollkasko cover?

  • Liability (Haftpflicht) is mandatory and covers damage you cause to other people, vehicles, or property. It doesn't cover your own car.

  • Teilkasko (partial comprehensive) adds cover for events outside your control, such as theft, fire, glass damage, and collisions with animals.

  • Vollkasko (fully comprehensive) adds cover for damage to your own car even when you're at fault, including single-vehicle accidents, vandalism, and hit-and-run damage where the other driver can't be identified.

What are my coverage limits and deductible?

Our liability coverage protects you up to €100 million combined for personal injury, property damage, and financial loss to others, with up to €15 million per injured person. Kasko coverage has no overall payout cap because it pays based on your car's actual value or repair cost. Your deductible (Selbstbeteiligung) is the amount you pay yourself before we cover the rest of a claim. We set it individually for your policy, and liability coverage never has a deductible.

Is theft covered?

Theft of your car is covered under Teilkasko. Personal belongings left inside the car, such as bags, electronics, and other valuables, aren't covered by your car insurance. Theft also isn't covered if your keys were left in or on the car, because we treat this as a failure to secure the car.

Is gross negligence covered?

Gross negligence is covered under Vollkasko, with 2 exceptions.

  • Damage caused while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs isn't covered.

  • Theft of your car or its parts isn't covered if it happened because you were grossly negligent about securing the car, for example by leaving your keys inside.

Damage you cause intentionally is never covered.

Are electric vehicle batteries, charging cables, and wallboxes covered?

Electric vehicle parts are covered as follows.

  • Battery: Vollkasko covers your battery on an all-risk basis, meaning damage, destruction, loss, or total loss from almost any event, with only a few exceptions named in the policy terms. If the battery is a total loss, we also cover disposal costs.

  • Wallbox, charging cables, charging cards, and mobile chargers: Teilkasko covers all of these.

  • Running out of charge: counts as a breakdown under Schutzbrief.

Are built-in navigation and sound systems covered?

Built-in navigation and sound systems are covered. Under our standard cover, we apply a normal age-related deduction when replacing a built-in audio, navigation, or communication system. With the Exklusiv package, we remove the age-related deduction and pay full replacement value.

Who is allowed to drive my car?

Anyone driving your car with your permission is covered, because liability coverage follows the car, not a specific driver. Kasko coverage applies the same way. Declared drivers affect your price, but they aren't a coverage restriction.
