The HSN (Herstellerschlüsselnummer) and TSN (Typschlüsselnummer) are two codes that identify your car’s manufacturer and exact model. We use the HSN and TSN to calculate the price of your car insurance.
The HSN is always 4 numbers. The TSN is usually 3 letters, but it can also be 3 numbers.
How do I find the HSN and TSN of my car?
You can find your car’s HSN and TSN in 3 ways:
The HSN and TSN are printed on your car’s registration certificate (Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I). The HSN is in field 2.1, and the TSN is the first 3 characters in field 2.2. If you bought the car from a previous owner, the previous owner should have given you this document.
The dealership or seller of your car can give you the HSN and TSN if they haven’t already.
You can look up the HSN and TSN online with the price calculator on our insurance partner’s website.
How do I look up the HSN and TSN online?
The online price calculator is in German, so we recommend using your browser’s translation feature.
Open the car locator
Answer the first question (“Ist das Auto bereits auf Ihren Namen versichert?”, which means “Is the car already insured in your name?”). Your answer doesn’t affect the lookup, just just click anything.
On the next screen, select the option to look up your car by make and model.
Enter your car’s make, model, engine power, body type, and fuel type.
The calculator then shows the HSN and TSN for your car.
Very new car models aren’t always in the online database yet. You can contact our support team for more assistance or additional resources.
