What changes do I need to report?

You need to report significant changes in your annual mileage, where you park the car overnight, your address, and who regularly drives the car.

What happens if I drive more than my stated mileage?

Driving more than your stated mileage isn't a coverage problem, but you must report the change. Deliberate underreporting can lead to a penalty or affect a claim. You can also update your annual mileage during your policy, and a lower mileage reduces your premium from the date you report it, not retroactively.

Do I need to tell you if I swap my foreign license for a German one?

You don't need to report that you swapped your foreign driving license for a German one.

Can I switch between monthly and annual payments?

You can change your payment frequency between monthly and annual. Paying annually removes the installment surcharge on monthly payments, which is typically up to 5%, so your total annual cost is lower. Switching from annual to monthly adds the surcharge back.

Why did my premium change at renewal?

Your premium can change at renewal for 2 reasons. Your SF class typically improves with each claim-free year, which lowers your price. Changes to your car's rate class or your region's rate class are set by the wider insurance market and can raise or lower your price regardless of your driving record.

When can I cancel my car insurance?

You can cancel your car insurance with 30 days' notice before your policy renews. The widely repeated November 30 deadline only applies to policies that run on the calendar year, and our policy year runs from the date you signed up. Your cancellation deadline is therefore 30 days before your signup anniversary.

How do I change or add a vehicle?

Changing your vehicle (Fahrzeugwechsel) means replacing the car on your existing contract after your previous car was sold or scrapped, instead of opening a new policy.

  • To carry over your terms, no more than 6 months can pass between the end of your old car's coverage and the start of the new car's coverage.

  • The new car must be the same vehicle type and used for the same purpose as the old car.

  • Adding a second car (Zweitwagen) is a separate policy alongside your existing one, not a swap.
