Can I insure my car if the policyholder differs from the owner, the car is leased, or my price changed?

Learn whether the policyholder can differ from the registered keeper, whether we insure leased cars, what to do if your car isn't found by HSN/TSN, why your price can change after the quote, and what a cancellation by your previous insurer means.

Can the policyholder be different from the registered keeper or owner?

The policyholder (Versicherungsnehmer) can be a different person from the registered keeper (Halter) or the legal owner. This includes spouses, leasing arrangements, and non-residents. For a leased car, we need the leasing company's details as part of your application, because the leasing company is typically listed as the registered keeper while you are the policyholder.

Why did my price change between the quote and the final policy?

Your final price can differ from your quote because we confirm it using your exact HSN/TSN code and first-registration date from your registration document. These 2 details affect your rate class and age-based pricing factors, so small differences between your estimate and your official documents can change the final number. Your coverage stays the same.

Can I get car insurance if my previous insurer canceled my policy?

You can still apply for car insurance if your previous insurer canceled your policy, but what's available depends on the type of cover and the reason for cancellation. [

  • Liability: it's compulsory by law, and insurers can generally only refuse it in severe cases, such as serious non-payment of earlier premiums or intentional fraud.

  • Teilkasko and Vollkasko: these are voluntary, so an insurer can refuse them if you have a history of multiple claims or a cancellation by a prior insurer.
