When and how am I charged?
Our insurance partner collects your car insurance payments directly, not Feather. When you sign up, we pass your payment details to them, and billing happens between you and them from then on. Your first charge covers your registration date to the same date the following month, and you're billed monthly on that calendar day afterward.
What should I do if I haven't received my invoice?
Your first invoice (Beitragsrechnung) is normally sent before or around your policy start date, and your first premium is due 14 days after you receive it, or 14 days after your policy start date if that is later. If your payment window is approaching and you haven't received an invoice, ask for a copy rather than waiting. You can contact our support team for more assistance or additional resources.
What should I do if I think I've been charged twice?
If your premium is collected by SEPA direct debit (Lastschrift), you can reverse a duplicate or incorrect debit through your bank. You can request a reversal within 8 weeks of the debit without giving a reason, or within 13 months if the debit was unauthorized. Reporting the duplicate first may be faster, because a processing error can often be corrected and refunded directly. You can contact our support team for more assistance or additional resources.
How do refunds work, and how long do they take?
Refunds for car insurance mostly happen after early cancellation. If you cancel before your insurance year ends and you paid annually in advance, we keep only the premium for the time you were covered, calculated by day, and refund the rest. This applies whether the policy ended because you switched insurers, sold the car, or had a total loss.
What happens if a payment fails?
What happens depends on whether it's your first premium or a later one.
First premium: it's due within 14 days of receiving your policy documents, or 14 days after your policy start date if that is later. If the delay is your fault, such as insufficient funds or ignoring the invoice, you aren't covered from your start date. Cover begins only when you pay, and not retroactively. If the delay isn't your fault, such as wrong bank details on file or a bank error, you're covered from your original start date.
Later premiums: if a payment is missed, we send a reminder requiring the outstanding amount plus interest and costs within 2 weeks. A claim after that deadline isn't covered while you remain in default. If you're still in default, we can cancel your policy immediately. The cancellation becomes void if you pay the outstanding amount, interest, and costs within 1 month of receiving the cancellation notice.
