You can cancel your personal liability insurance on a monthly basis, and your coverage stays active until the last day of the month you cancel in. Within 14 days of purchase, you can cancel for a full refund as long as you haven't made a claim. Premiums are billed on the 1st of each month, and a failed payment starts a 15-day grace period before your policy is canceled. A canceled policy can be reinstated in some cases, depending on why and when it was canceled.

How do I cancel my personal liability insurance?

  1. Log in to your account.

  2. Go to your personal liability insurance policy.

  3. Select the cancellation option and submit your cancellation request.

  4. Once your cancellation request is processed, your coverage stays active until the last day of the current month, and you aren't billed for any later months.

Can I cancel my personal liability insurance and get a full refund?

You can cancel your personal liability insurance for a full refund during the 14-day right of withdrawal period, which starts on your purchase date.

  • If you cancel within 14 days of your purchase date and haven't made a claim, you receive a full refund.

  • If your policy is scheduled to start more than 14 days after your purchase date, you can cancel any time before the start date for a full refund.

  • If the 14-day right of withdrawal period has passed, a minimum of 1 month of coverage applies, so you're responsible for the premium for your first month. After that first month, the standard monthly cancellation rules apply.

When does my personal liability insurance coverage end after I cancel?

Your personal liability insurance coverage stays active until the last day of the month in which you submit your cancellation request. After that month ends, we no longer bill you.

Scheduling a cancellation for a future month

You can't schedule a personal liability insurance cancellation in advance. You can only cancel once the month in which you want your coverage to end has started. For example, if you want your coverage to end in July, you can cancel on July 2, and your coverage ends on July 31.

Leaving Germany during the month

If you're leaving Germany partway through a month and have proof of your departure, such as an Abmeldung (the certificate confirming you've deregistered your address in Germany), we can end your policy retroactively on the departure date shown on that document and reimburse you accordingly.

Can I file a claim after my personal liability insurance is canceled?

You can file a personal liability insurance claim after your policy is canceled, as long as the incident happened while your policy was active. You can't submit a claim while your account has an outstanding unpaid balance. In that case, pay the outstanding balance first to bring your account back into good standing. You don't need to buy a new policy to claim for an incident that happened while your previous policy was active.

When are personal liability insurance premiums billed?

We bill personal liability insurance premiums on the 1st day of each month. Your first premium may be billed on a different date, depending on when your policy started.

What happens if I miss a personal liability insurance payment?

If a personal liability insurance premium payment fails, you have a 15-day grace period to pay the outstanding balance. If the balance isn't paid within the 15-day grace period, your coverage ends and your policy is canceled.

  • You can retry a failed payment during the grace period in the Billing section of your account using a credit card, debit card, or PayPal.

  • SEPA payments can't be retried, either automatically or manually.

  • If SEPA is your default payment method, set a credit card, debit card, or PayPal as your default payment method before retrying. The retried payment is then collected instantly, and you can set SEPA back as your default payment method afterward.

Please note: SEPA transfers take 6 business days to clear.

Can I undo my cancellation or reinstate a canceled personal liability insurance policy?

Whether you can reinstate a canceled personal liability insurance policy depends on why and when the policy was canceled.

  • If your policy was canceled because of non-payment, you can request reinstatement by paying all outstanding premiums within 30 days of the cancellation.

  • If your policy was canceled because of non-payment more than 30 days ago, reinstatement is no longer available. You need to settle any unpaid balance from the previous grace period before you can buy a new policy.

  • If you canceled your policy by accident, our support team can reinstate it as long as you ask within the same month as the cancellation.

  • If you canceled your policy by accident and a new month has started, your policy can't be reinstated, and you need to buy a new policy.

You can contact our support team for more assistance or additional resources.
