Coverage while staying abroad

Yes — your pet is covered if you need to visit a veterinarian while temporarily abroad. The coverage applies under the same conditions as it would in Germany.

This means you’ll be reimbursed for eligible treatments up to the same limits that apply in Germany under the Veterinary Fee Schedule (GOT). Learn more about the GOT here.

How long you’re covered

Your insurance includes worldwide coverage for up to 12 months per uninterrupted stay abroad. This gives you flexibility if you’re traveling, staying with family, or spending an extended period outside Germany. If you’re abroad for more than 12 months without returning, coverage ends after that time.

What’s important to know

  • Treatments must be carried out by a licensed veterinarian abroad.

  • Reimbursements are calculated based on what the treatment would have cost in Germany under the GOT.

  • Make sure your invoice meets the standard requirements:

    • It must be itemized, with each treatment and service listed separately.

    • Your pet’s name or identification (chip number) should appear clearly on the invoice. If no chip number is available, please ensure other identifying details such as your pet’s breed or description are included.

    • Any medication provided must be individually named and priced.

    • If the invoice is written in a language other than German or English, you’ll need to provide a translation for it to be processed.
