Legal insurance can provide individuals with valuable protection and peace of mind when it comes to legal matters. However, circumstances may change, and you might find yourself needing to downgrade your policy. Whether it's due to budget constraints or a reassessment of your coverage needs, downgrading your legal insurance policy can be done through your account. We'll guide you through the steps to successfully downgrade your policy.

Step 1: Cancel Your Current Policy

The first step in downgrading your legal insurance policy is to cancel your existing coverage. Log in to your Feather account and navigate to your policy details. Look for the cancellation option and follow the prompts to initiate the cancellation process. Take note of the expiration date of your current policy, as it will be important for the next steps.

Step 2: Waiting Period and Final Payment

After initiating the cancellation, it's important to understand that there will be a waiting period before your new policy can start. As per the cancellation policy of legal insurance, you will have one more payment of your advanced policy, and a full billing month to pass, before you're able to make the switch.

Step 3: Purchase the basic legal policy

Please then go through the sign-up flow to purchase a new Basic Legal insurance policy here. During the sign-up, please be sure to:

  • Select 'Yes' when asked if you had previous legal insurance;

  • Select 'ROLAND Schutzbrief-Versicherung AG' when asked for the details of your previous insurer;

  • Select 'I did' when asked who terminated your previous contract; and

  • Enter the correct end date of your previous contract as noted above.

After selecting to continue with the basic quote, please enter your details as required. Please nominate the start date of your new policy as the end date of your previous legal insurance policy as noted above (E.g. if your Advanced plan ends on Feb 1 then your requested start date for your Basic plan should to be Feb 1).

All time served on the Advanced policy will count towards the waiting periods for your new Basic policy only if there are no gaps in coverage.

Please keep in mind you will be required to pay upfront for the first month of your new policy. You won't be required to make any further payments for your new policy until after your Basic policy is active and a month has passed.

*Starting from February 1, 2024, new contractual terms (ARB 2024) apply. As such, the waiting periods and coverage limitations may vary from the pervious terms (ARB 2022) if your policy was purchased prior to this date. Kindly consider this information if you intend to downgrade your legal insurance policy.
