What is the Flex add-on?

Flex is an optional add-on for long-term private health plans. It lets you upgrade your coverage later without a new health check. With this, you can:

  • Move to a plan with a lower deductible (pay less out of pocket)

  • Upgrade to broader coverage (more treatments included)

This add-on is ideal if you want to start with a lower price but may want more coverage later.

When can you switch?

1. Fixed time intervals

You can switch on January 1 (if you apply before January 31 that year):

  • Scenario 1: After 2, 5, or 8 full calendar years from your policy start date (as long as you haven’t reduced your coverage in the meantime)

  • Scenario 2: After 2, 5, or 8 full calendar years after reducing your coverage (but only to your immediately previous plan and deductible)

2. After certain life events (apply between month 1 and 7 after the event)

  • Starting to receive a retirement pension (state, professional scheme, or certain private annuities)

  • Increasing your daily income protection benefit by at least 10%

  • Changing your employment status (for example, from employee to self-employed)

  • Completing 2 years in a new self-employed role after switching from employment

You’ll need to show proof of the event if asked (such as a pension certificate or proof of income).

How does the process work?

  1. Contact us: let us know you want to upgrade with Flex. We’ll send you a short form to fill out.

  2. Get a quote: you’ll receive a quote for your new plan. Review and sign to confirm your upgrade.

  3. Start your new plan: once the paperwork is complete, your upgraded plan will usually start the following month.
