How should I submit medical bills from treatment abroad?
The submission process is always the same. Medical bills in German, English, or Spanish are accepted. For other languages, submit the bill along with a translation from any online tool. Each invoice must include your personal details, diagnosis, and an itemized list of costs per treatment. For example, a bill for €100 should break down the performed services.
Are sick notes from doctors abroad valid for work absence?
If you become sick while abroad and can’t work, a sick note from a doctor abroad is valid. It must specify that you are unable to work due to illness/injury, and the expected duration you’ll be unable to work.
If you’re employed, submit your sick note and your current location to your employer within 3 days after you become unable to work. A statement from your private health provider is not needed.
Keep your no-claim-in-a-year bonus by adding travel insurance
It starts at €25 per year. You can submit your medical bills from your travels there, and get money back from your private health insurance for not making any claims! Travel insurance also offers extra coverage for treatments abroad and repatriation.
