If you’re planning to change your dental coverage, it’s helpful to know how upgrades and downgrades are handled. From when the change takes effect to how your old plan is cancelled, a few key steps ensure everything goes smoothly.

How can I upgrade my dental insurance policy?

You can upgrade your dental insurance at any time by purchasing a new policy.

If you’re moving from the Basic to the Advanced plan, make sure to:

  • Use the same email linked to your Feather account

  • Set the 1st of the following month as your new start date

There’s no need to cancel your current plan yourself—we’ll do that automatically and refund any overlapping charges. This refund is based on any pre-paid days after the new plan begins.

The Advanced plan offers broader coverage, including benefits for tooth replacement procedures (like implants, crowns, and bridges) and cosmetic treatments such as whitening. You can review this article if you’re unsure which plan is right for you.

If you’re already on the Advanced plan and want to increase your reimbursement level for tooth replacement (for example, from 80% to 100%), just message us. Our chatbot will guide you through the upgrade.

Important: Upgrading creates a new policy. This means any dental treatments that were planned, recommended, or started under your previous policy won’t be covered after the switch. If you’re currently undergoing treatment, you’ll need to complete it before upgrading.

What are the conditions for downgrading my dental insurance policy?

You can only downgrade your dental policy after you’ve had it for at least one year.

  • If you’re still within 14 days of your policy start date (the Right of Withdrawal period), you can downgrade immediately.

  • After 14 days, you’ll need to wait until the one-year mark before switching to a lower plan.

How can I downgrade my dental insurance policy?

To downgrade, simply purchase a new policy through your Feather account:

  • Use the same email address linked to your current plan.

  • Set the start date as the 1st of the following month.

Once your new policy is active, we’ll cancel your old one and refund any overlapping days you’ve already paid for.

There’s no need to manually cancel your plan—just follow the steps above, and we’ll handle the rest.
