Regular dental procedures such as cleanings and fillings are generally covered by Feather dental insurance. You can check coverage for more advanced treatments by submitting a detailed treatment plan called a Heil- or Kostenplan through your Feather account. The confirmation typically takes 3-4 weeks.

Which dental procedures are generally covered by Feather dental insurance?

Feather covers most standard dental treatments, including cleanings, high-quality fillings, root canals, mouthguards, and pain relief like anesthesia.

If you have our Advanced plan, you’re also covered for treatments like implants, bridges, crowns, inlays, and even professional teeth whitening.

Why should I check coverage before more advanced or invasive dental procedures?

Some treatments can get expensive, especially if they’re more complex. That’s why it’s a good idea to check in with us before going ahead. We’ll let you know if the treatment fits your plan, meets the reimbursement rules, and won’t leave you with unexpected costs.

What is the maximum allowable severity factor and how does it affect my coverage?

Dentists in Germany assign a "severity factor" to each treatment, based on how complex or time-consuming it is. Your Feather plan covers up to:

  • 3.5 for personal dental services

  • 2.5 for medical/technical services

  • 1.3 for lab work

If your dentist charges more than these limits, we’ll only reimburse part of the cost. Please find more information here.

How can I check if my planned dental treatment will be covered?

Ask your dentist for a Heil- or Kostenplan—this is a detailed treatment and cost estimate. It should include all procedures, fee codes, and prices. Once you have it, just upload a scanned copy or clear photo to your Feather account. Our team will review it and usually get back to you in about 3 to 4 weeks.

Should I send the treatment plan to my public insurer as well?

Your dentist usually handles that part, but it’s always smart to double-check. You can send it yourself to be sure both insurers are informed.
