Household contents insurance covers the contents of your household, often referred to as the moveable belongings. These are the things that, if you turned your apartment upside down, would fall out, or if you would move out, you would take with you.

Insured events

Your belongings are covered against specific incidents, these are called the insured events. They are:

  • Fire

  • Robbery

  • Vandalism that occurs after a burglary, robbery, or an attempt to commit these acts

  • Storms, and hail

Insured belongings

Insured are the household belongings in your apartment or single-family house. This includes all items that are for your private use (use or consumption). This includes, for example;

  • Furniture (yours and your landlords), carpets, clothing;

  • electronic devices and appliances (e.g. washing machine, TV, computer), and

  • other valuables, like jewelry, and artworks.

What is not covered

  • malfunctioning appliances and electronics

  • general wear and tear of belongings

  • damages that are done to the structure of your apartment or home e.g the walls or floors

  • simple theft of your belongings (see exclusions here)

  • locksmith or key replacement services

  • damages caused while moving (unless you are moving due to an insured event and have the extended policy)
