1. Waiting Periods

One key difference is the waiting periods before you are eligible to file certain types of claims. For specific areas of law, waiting periods differ as follows:

  • Basic Plan: 6 months for employment law disputes.

  • Advanced Plan: 3 months for employment law disputes.

For more details on waiting periods and a breakdown by legal areas, refer to our detailed guide.

2. Right of Withdrawal Period

In Germany, legal insurance plans include a right of withdrawal period, during which you can cancel your contract and receive a full refund of premiums paid:

  • Basic Plan: 14 days

  • Advanced Plan: 60 days

Important Note: The right of withdrawal is only valid if the insurance has not been used (e.g., for phone consultations or claims).

3. Worldwide Coverage Limits

While both plans offer unlimited coverage for legal cases within Germany, coverage for legal support outside Germany differs:

  • Basic Plan: Up to €250,000

  • Advanced Plan: Up to €500,000

4. Self-Employment

Legal disputes related to self-employment or freelancing are treated differently:

  • Basic Plan: No coverage for self-employment or freelancing claims.

  • Advanced Plan: Coverage available for secondary income from self-employment/freelancing (up to €22,000 annually). Neither plan covers disputes if self-employment is the primary income source.

5. Specific Areas of Law Coverage

Coverage limits and inclusions vary significantly between the two plans for certain types of legal disputes:

Family Law

  • Basic Plan: €250 per case (inheritance or civil partnership/marriage disputes).

  • Advanced Plan: Up to €5,000 per case (inheritance disputes) and up to €2,500 per case (civil partnership/marriage disputes).

Investments/Assets

  • Basic Plan: Covers only low-risk investments.

  • Advanced Plan: Covers high-risk investments and assets up to €50,000.

Home/Real Estate Law

The Advanced plan offers broader protection for property-related disputes:

  • Building/Construction Disputes: Not covered under Basic; up to €5,000 per case under Advanced.

  • Expropriation, Planning Approval, and Land Consolidation: Up to €100,000 per case under Advanced; not covered under Basic.

  • Development and Local Connection Work Disputes: Covered under Advanced; not included in Basic.
