Who qualifies for the SF3 starting class?
We offer the SF3 starting class for any expats, as long as:
You’re registering a car for the first time in Germany with an eVB we issue
You’re over the age of 23
You you have no previous claims history in Germany.
SF3 gives you the equivalent of 3 claim-free years, instantly leading to lower premiums.
Please note that you don't qualify if the car was already registered under another insurer's contract, including a short-term contract (Kurzzeitvertrag) of about 28–30 days.
But you can still qualify if you only used a 5-day short-term plate (Kurzzeitkennzeichen), because it doesn't create an ordinary registration.
I already have a German policy, does my foreign claims history still count?
Your foreign claims history doesn't count if you already hold a German car insurance policy, because we can't add foreign history on top of or to replace an existing German SF classification.
What are my options if I've been driving for years but have no claims history paperwork?
If you can't provide claims history documentation, you have 2 options.
Führerscheinregelung is a German system that lets you start at the more favorable class SF½ when you register your first car, based on how long you've held a valid EU/EEA driving license (at least 3 years). ****
The SF3 starting class applies if you meet the conditions in the SF3 eligibility answer above.
