Preventive check-ups covered by Private health insurance and your no-claims bonus

All Private health insurance (PKV) plans cover the preventive check-ups recommended by the German government, with no age limits. See where to find the recommended schedule and how preventive care affects your no-claims bonus.

Preventive health check-ups are medical tests that detect health issues early, and the German government publishes a recommended schedule by age and gender on krankenkassen.de. Every Private health insurance (PKV) plan covers the government-recommended check-ups with no age limits. The Standard, Plus, and Premium plans cover additional preventive services beyond the government list, though not every plan includes the same services. Some plans pay a no-claims bonus, and preventive check-ups usually do not reduce it, though extra services billed during the same appointment can.

What are preventive health check-ups in Germany?

Preventive health check-ups are medical tests designed to detect health issues at an early stage, before symptoms appear. The German government publishes a recommended schedule of check-ups based on age and gender. You can book these appointments directly with your general practitioner, gynecologist, or dentist.

Does Private health insurance cover preventive check-ups?

All Private health insurance (PKV) plans cover the preventive check-ups recommended by the German government, and there are no age limits on this coverage. The specific examinations recommended depend on your age and gender. The Standard, Plus, and Premium plans cover additional preventive services on top of the government-recommended list.

Coverage limits and included services vary by plan. Always refer to the terms and conditions of your specific policy, which you can find in your Feather account.

Where can I see which preventive check-ups the German government recommends?

The German government publishes a recommended schedule of preventive check-ups by age and gender, including the child screening schedule known as U1–U9 and J1–J2. You can see the full list of recommended examinations on krankenkassen.de. All Private health insurance (PKV) plans cover the check-ups on this schedule with no age limits. The schedule is set by the German government rather than by your policy, so it can change independently of your plan.

Which additional preventive check-ups do the Standard, Plus, and Premium plans cover?

Coverage limits and included services vary by plan. Always refer to the terms and conditions of your specific policy, which you can find in your Feather account.

How do preventive check-ups affect my no-claims bonus?

Some Private health insurance (PKV) plans pay a no-claims bonus if you submit no claims during the year, or if you submit claims only for preventive check-ups. When you book an appointment, share the list of covered examinations with your doctor so that services outside the covered list are not added to the bill.

Coverage limits and included services vary by plan. Always refer to the terms and conditions of your specific policy, which you can find in your Feather account.

What happens if extra services are billed alongside my preventive check-up?

If your doctor bills services beyond the covered preventive check-ups, this may affect your no-claims bonus only if your monthly cashback or deductible is already used up.

Coverage limits and included services vary by plan. Always refer to the terms and conditions of your specific policy, which you can find in your Feather account.
