Who can be covered under private health insurance?
Private health insurance can cover your spouse as well as your biological or adopted children if they meet these conditions:
Their monthly income is less than €603.
They do not have any significant pre-existing health conditions.
Health conditions that arise after signup are not an issue.Children must be covered by the same insurance as the higher-earning parent by default.
If both parents have public insurance or only the higher-earning parent has public insurance, children can be added at no additional cost.
If the higher-earning parent has private insurance, children can either be added to private insurance or insured under public insurance for approximately €210 per month.
What are the steps to add family members to private health insurance?
Get a quote for your entire family.
If you are employed, the quote will show how much your employer will contribute. Family members can choose different plans, you do not all need to select the same one.
Apply online.
You'll need to submit an application for both yourself and your dependents. When applying for children under age 6, you must submit their medical check-up reports (U-Untersuchungen).
Confirm the application details.
Within 2 business days, you will receive an email to confirm the application details with your signature. If any questions arise, we'll reach out automatically.
Medical exams are generally necessary only if the family member was not insured in the past 12 months or has certain health conditions.
