How can I request a phone consultation with a lawyer through my legal insurance?

Our legal insurance includes a free phone consultation service with English-speaking lawyers to provide legal advice or guidance. This service does not include additional support such as reviewing documents, contracts, or correspondence with other parties. Such support requires submitting a legal claim for coverage to engage a local lawyer.

To request a free phone consultation, take these steps:

1. Log in to your Feather account and go to the Claims section.

2. Click the "+ New claim" button.

3. Select the "Book a phone consultation" option.

4. Follow the instructions provided and call the number given.

An operator will assist you in scheduling a callback from a lawyer. The operator may answer in German, but you can request to speak in English to ensure the lawyer also speaks English.

Still not sure if you should request a phone consultation or submit a claim?

We have a great article hat breaks down the differences so you understand the process for both.

What do I do after the phone consultation if I'm advised to take further legal action and need to hire an actual lawyer?

If you have the phone consultation, but need full legal support after it, then you must still submit an actual claim through your Feather account. You can then get the process started to confirm whether your'e covered to hire a lawyer.

If you had already submitted a claim, but were directed by Roland (our insurance partner and the claims processor) to have a phone consultation first, then all you need to do is reply to Roland's email that directed you to the phone consultation service. Tell Roland that you were advised you have a valid legal case, need to hire a lawyer, and ask that they approve coverage for full legal support.

What is the difference between a phone consultation and submitting a legal claim?

Phone consultations provide legal advice or guidance only. They do not cover extended services such as document or contract reviews or correspondence with third parties. If you require these services, you must submit a legal claim to access coverage for a local lawyer.

How is the phone consultation service provided?

In Germany, legal insurance providers cannot offer phone consultations directly. We partner with an external third-party service provider to deliver this service.

Lawyers conducting consultations will call from a blocked number and will verify your identity before providing any legal advice.

Can I request legal advice by email or other communication methods?

Legal advice under this service is only provided via telephone calls. Requests for advice through email, video platforms, messaging apps, or non-EU telephone lines are not supported.

The phone consultation is not working for me, what can I do?

The phone consultation service is a third-party call-back service; it is not possible to access the service or a lawyer instantly. This means there may occasionally be a shortage of operators who can take your call, or there could be a delay in a lawyer contacting you back. If you're struggling to get support via this service, try calling again at a different time to request a call-back, sometimes operators free up later in the day. If you're handed over to a German-speaking person or lawyer, let them know you'd like to speak to someone in English.

I missed the call with the lawyer, what can I do?

If a lawyer from the phone consultation tried to call you and you missed the call, there's no need to worry. Simply call back again and let them know you'd like to arrange a new consultation.

Please have your policy number ready when you call, as this will help them locate your details and schedule your appointment without delay.
