Here’s an overview of when and how to submit claims for your Long-term Expat health insurance.

Before you start a claim, we recommend checking our coverage FAQ to know exactly what you can claim for, as this policy may differ from health insurance you’ve had before.

Using your insurance

When you sign up, you’ll receive a digital healthcare card although in most cases you won’t need it to book an appointment.

To use your insurance:

  • Book your appointment as a self-paying or private patient

  • Pay the invoice upfront

  • Submit your documents through your Feather account for processing and reimbursement

How to submit a claim

Claims are handled slightly differently depending on the total amount:

  • Claims under €500

  • Claims between €500 and €3,500

  • Claims over €3,500

Here is what to do in each case:

Below €500

Between €500 - €3,500

Above €3,500

Submit a claim through your Feather account with:

  • Confirmation of medical symptoms/injury

  • Referral letter, if relevant

  • Itemized medical invoice

  • Itemized physician’s prescription

  • Proof of payment

  • European IBAN (for reimbursement)

Firstly, have your primary treating practitioner fill out this form.

Then submit a claim through your Feather account with:

  • Completed claim form

  • Confirmation of medical symptoms/injury

  • Referral letter, if relevant

  • Itemized medical invoice

  • Itemized physician’s prescription

  • Proof of payment

  • European IBAN (for reimbursement)

Reach out to our third party provider to receive assistance with larger claims including pre-approvals and hospital inpatient admissions.

or

Please note: You will need your policy number and treating physician’s details.

If you are unsure of the final claim amount and suspect it may be over €500, then we recommend bringing the claim form with you to your medical appointment and have it filled out just in case. This will help ensure a faster and smoother claims process.

Deductibles

Voluntary deductible

If you picked a voluntary deductible, this will first be applied to any claims made before the insurance coverage kicks in.

E.g. If you selected a €150 voluntary deductible and then submit your first claim, which was a €500 invoice from a hospital visit, then €150 would be out of pocket and your policy would then cover the remaining €350.

This deductible is only applied once per insurance term (which is yearly), not per event/appointment.

General deductible on outpatient appointments

There is a €30 deductible per insured event for some outpatient care. This is a separate deductible to the voluntary deductible you may have chosen upon sign up.

Please note, this deductible is per medical event, not per appointment.
