Here we provide an overview of when and how to submit claims for your long term expat health insurance policy. But before we get into the claims process, we suggest reviewing your coverage in our coverage FAQ to understand what you can claim for under your policy, since it may be different to previous health insurance policies you've had.

Using your insurance

A digital healthcare card will be provided to you on sign up, but, in most cases, you won't need this to book an appointment. To use your insurance, you will act as a self paying or private patient when booking your appointments and you would, in most cases, pay up front and then submit your relevant documents for processing and reimbursement.

How to submit a claim

Claims submissions can be broken down into three parts:

  1. Claims below €500

  2. Claims above €500 but below €3,500

  3. Claims above €3,500

Further steps for each categories:

Below €500

Between €500 - €3,500

Above €3,500

Please note: You will need your policy number and treating physician’s details.

If you are unsure of the final claim amount and suspect it may be over €375, then we recommend bringing the claim form with you to your medical appointment and have it filled out just in case. This will help ensure a faster and smoother claims process.

Deductibles

Voluntary deductible

If you picked a voluntary deductible, this will be applied to any claims made first before the insurance coverage kicks in.

Eg. If you selected a €150 voluntary deductible and then submitted your first claim which was a €500 invoice from a hospital visit, then €150 would be out of pocket and your policy would then cover the remaining €350.

This deductible is only applied once per insurance term (which is yearly), not per event/appointment.

General deductible on outpatient appointments

There is a €30 deductible per insured event for some outpatient care. This is a separate deductible to the voluntary deductible you may have chosen upon sign up.

Please note, this deductible is per medical event, not per appointment.
