When do premiums increase?
Your monthly premium changes as your pet reaches certain age milestones. Adjustments take place when your pet turns 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 years old.
Why do premiums increase with age?
As pets grow older, they’re more likely to develop health problems and need veterinary care. To reflect this increased risk, premiums are adjusted upward at these age milestones.
When does the adjustment happen?
The price increase occurs at the start of the next insurance year following your pet’s birthdate. To clarify, the first insurance year begins on the policy’s start date, and the price increase is applied on the policy’s “anniversary date” that comes after your pet’s birthdate.
Example:
If your policy starts on October 1, 2025, and your pet turns 3 on December 12, 2025, the new premium will apply on October 1, 2026 — the next anniversary of your policy.
Premium changes happen only at specific ages, not every year. Understanding this schedule makes it easier to anticipate future costs and plan for your pet’s care.
