Certain pre-existing conditions restrict you from taking out insurance for your pet if you are aware of them before taking out the policy.

At the time the contract is concluded, your animal may not:

  • be chronically ill. What is meant here are diseases/accident consequences whose symptoms have lasted or are likely to last longer than 8 weeks.

  • be under medical treatment and no medical treatment is advised or recommended.

  • have had an operation in the last 6 months prior to the application or have any upcoming planned medically necessary operations that have been recommended by a veterinarian. Accident-related operations are excluded from this (eg. closing of an open wound caused by an accident).

The following pre-existing conditions also rule out insurance for your pet:

  • epilepsy

  • diabetes

  • thyroid disorders

  • allergies (with the exception of food allergies)

  • hip dysplasia

  • elbow dysplasia

  • Increase in size/tumors

  • Physical Disabilities/Malformations (radius curvus, patellar luxation)

Your pet is also not insurable if a blood test reveals signs of contact with blood parasites (even if this is not presenting itself with clinical symptoms at the current time). These vector-borne diseases include but are not limited to: Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Babesiosis, Hepatozoonosis, Leishmaniasis, and micro- and microfilariae.
