A routine check-up is a preventive appointment booked when you have no symptoms or complaints. Under Expat health insurance, Basic Cover includes no routine check-ups and only 3 rapid antigen tests for COVID. After a 6-month waiting period, Premium Cover covers dental check-ups and cleanings, pregnancy check-ups, cancer screenings, an annual skin cancer check, and travel and COVID vaccinations. Premium Cover covers the mandatory U1–U9 child check-ups from the policy start date, excluding vaccinations. If a covered check-up finds a health issue, follow-up treatment is covered within the plan’s benefits.

What routine check-ups and preventive care does Expat health insurance cover?

Routine check-up and preventive care coverage under Expat health insurance depends on your plan.

Basic Cover

  • Basic Cover includes no coverage for routine check-ups.

  • Basic Cover includes 3 rapid antigen tests for COVID.

Premium Cover

  • Premium Cover pays for dental cleanings up to €100 per year.

  • Premium Cover pays for pregnancy check-ups if the pregnancy begins after your policy start date.

  • Premium Cover fully covers 1 skin cancer check per year.

  • Premium Cover covers 5 rapid antigen tests for COVID.

  • Premium Cover gives a €5 per month allowance for fitness and health apps.

Premium Cover also covers travel and COVID vaccinations, which have their own limits.

Are the mandatory child check-ups (U1–U9) covered by Expat health insurance?

Expat health insurance Premium Cover covers the mandatory child check-ups (U1–U9) for insured children under 18. These check-ups have no waiting period, so they’re covered from the policy start date. Vaccinations given during a U1–U9 check-up are not covered. Basic Cover does not cover the U1–U9 child check-ups.

Which vaccinations does Expat health insurance cover?

Expat health insurance covers vaccinations only on Premium Cover, after a 6-month waiting period:

  • Premium Cover pays for travel vaccinations up to €250.

  • Premium Cover pays for COVID vaccinations up to €100.

Neither plan covers general vaccinations, including vaccinations given during the U1–U9 child check-ups. Basic Cover does not cover any vaccinations.

What counts as a routine check-up under Expat health insurance?

A routine check-up under Expat health insurance is an appointment booked purely for preventive care, when you have no health issues, symptoms, or complaints. Routine check-ups help you stay healthy and catch potential problems early. Expat health insurance treats these appointments differently from appointments booked for an existing symptom.

Which medical visits are not routine check-ups under Expat health insurance?

An appointment booked for a specific symptom or an existing health problem is not a routine check-up under Expat health insurance. For example, seeing a doctor because of pain, an injury, or another complaint counts as symptomatic care. We assess symptomatic care under your plan’s regular medical treatment benefits, not its routine check-up benefits.

What happens if a health problem is found during a routine check-up under Expat health insurance?

Under Expat health insurance, follow-up care depends on whether your plan covers the check-up:

  • If your plan covers the check-up, we cover the check-up and any necessary treatment or follow-up care within your plan’s benefits.

  • If your plan doesn’t cover the check-up, we don’t cover the check-up or any treatment that results from its findings.

This means Premium Cover pays for follow-up care from a covered check-up, and Basic Cover does not.
