As your household policy is specific to your current home and size, to update your address (and coverage!) you will need to cancel your current household policy and purchase a new one.
Please follow these steps:
What date should my new policy start?
You can sign up for your new address and set the start date for when all your personal property is finally at that location and you move in permanently.
When should I cancel my old policy?
Your household contents insurance is a monthly policy and can be canceled at any time. When you move, make sure you cancel before the next billing date to avoid paying for an additional month. If you move and your new policy starts in the middle of the month, we'll pro-rata refund any overlapping days.
Both apartments are covered during the move!
Your old policy will temporarily cover both apartments for a maximum of three months during the moving process, while your belongings are between properties as long as you let us know in advance.*
What if I am moving abroad permanently?
Although your household contents insurance protects your belongings worldwide for temporary trips, you must continue to be a resident of Germany to be covered. If you're moving abroad permanently, you'll need to cancel your policy.
* Purchase a new policy with a future start date, no later than the end of your old policy to ensure no gaps in coverage.
