The first month of coverage is always paid at checkout, regardless of whether your policy starts immediately or on a future date, as a successful payment is required to conclude the insurance contract. If your coverage starts on the 1st of the month, you’ll pay the full monthly premium. If it starts on any other day, you’ll pay a prorated amount for the remainder of that month. After your policy begins, future premiums are collected on the 1st of each month.
How much do I pay when I first sign up?
The amount due at checkout depends on the start date you choose for your policy. If your start date is the 1st of the month, you pay the full monthly premium at checkout. If your start date falls on any other day, we calculate a pro-rated amount based on that date, so you may pay only part of the full monthly premium when you sign up.
How are recurring payments collected?
We collect insurance payments monthly. On the 1st of each month, we attempt to collect your monthly premium, and a successful payment confirms your coverage for that billing period. If a payment fails, we send email reminders asking you to settle the outstanding balance so that your coverage continues. You can usually settle the balance from your Feather account.
When is my second payment collected if my start date is in the future?
Your second payment is collected on the 1st of the month after your policy start date. If you choose a future start date, we collect a pro-rated initial payment at the time of purchase and do not collect the second, full payment until the month following your start date. No payments are collected for the months before your policy begins.
For example, if you sign up on January 5th with a start date of May 15th and a €72 monthly premium, you pay roughly €36 at checkout to cover May 15th–31st, and your second payment of €72 is collected on June 1st.
Which insurance products are billed separately from my monthly subscription?
Some of the insurance products we offer are not included in your monthly subscription and are billed separately. In Germany, these include:
Public health insurance (GKV)
Private health insurance (PKV)
Private pension insurance
