Remedy and therapy coverage

Everything you need to know about remedies and therapy coverage with private health insurance

Written by Justina

What are remedies?

Remedies covered by private health insurance include therapies and treatments typically prescribed by a doctor and carried out by medical professionals or therapists. They include:

  • Physiotherapy: massages, heat/cold therapy, medicinal baths

  • Speech therapy: for fluency, phonation, or language comprehension issues

  • Podiatry: medical foot care, especially for conditions like diabetes

  • Occupational therapy (ergotherapy): to promote independence

  • Nutritional therapy: to support diet changes needed due to illness

What requirements must be met for remedies to be reimbursed?

Remedies are reimbursed if all of the following apply:

  • The remedy treats or relieves an illness or physical impairment.

  • A medical doctor prescribed or referred you for the remedy.

  • The treatment must be provided by a registered therapist or medical professional who is not a doctor.

Are there reimbursement limits?

Yes, each of our plans only reimburses a certain amount for remedies. If your therapist charges more, you pay the difference. Here's how you can check the limits before the treatment:

  • Check your in-account coverage: check the full coverage table in your account to see exactly what’s included with your plan.

  • Ask about fees: confirm your therapist’s rates. You can also submit a cost plan in your account for our team to confirm upfront.
