How to request a phone consultation with a lawyer through legal insurance

How to book a free phone consultation with an English-speaking lawyer through your legal insurance, what the service covers, how it's delivered, and what to do if you miss a call or need to hire a lawyer for full legal support.

Legal insurance includes a free phone consultation with an English-speaking lawyer for advice or guidance. You can book a callback through the Claims section of your account, where an operator schedules a lawyer to call you back. The consultation doesn't cover document reviews, contract reviews, or correspondence with third parties; those require submitting a legal insurance claim to engage a local lawyer. The service is delivered by an external provider, and advice is given only by telephone.

How can I request a free phone consultation with a lawyer through my legal insurance?

Our legal insurance includes a free phone consultation service with English-speaking lawyers who provide legal advice or guidance. This service doesn't include reviewing documents, contracts, or correspondence with other parties; that level of support requires submitting a legal insurance claim to engage a local lawyer. To request a free phone consultation:

  1. Log in to your account and open your legal insurance policy.

  2. Select the option "+ Claims and consultations" to create a new claim.

  3. Choose the "Book a phone consultation" option.

  4. Follow the instructions provided and call the number given.

An operator will help you schedule a callback from a lawyer. The operator may answer in German, but you can ask to continue in English so that an English-speaking lawyer calls you back.

What should I do after the consultation if I'm advised to take further legal action and need to hire a lawyer?

If you haven't submitted a claim yet, submit one through your Feather account. This begins the process of confirming whether your case is covered and arranging a local lawyer. If you already submitted a claim and were directed to complete the phone consultation first, reply to the email from our insurance partner that directed you to the consultation. Explain that you were advised you have a valid legal case, state that you need to hire a lawyer, and ask them to approve coverage for full legal support.

What is the difference between a phone consultation and a legal insurance claim?

A phone consultation provides legal advice or guidance only. It doesn't cover extended services such as document reviews, contract reviews, or correspondence with third parties. To access those services, you need to submit a legal insurance claim, which provides coverage for a local lawyer.

How is the phone consultation service provided?

In Germany, legal insurance providers can't offer phone consultations directly. For this reason, we work with an external third-party service provider to deliver the consultations. The lawyers who conduct these calls phone you from a blocked number and verify your identity before giving any legal advice.

Can I request legal advice by email or other communication methods?

Legal advice under this service is provided only by telephone. Requests made through email, video platforms, messaging apps, or non-EU telephone lines aren't supported.

What should I do if I can't get through or miss the lawyer's call?

The phone consultation is a callback service, so you can't connect with a lawyer instantly, and there may occasionally be a shortage of available operators or a delay before a lawyer calls back. If you're having trouble getting through or missed a call:

  • Try calling again at a different time of day, as more operators may be available later.

  • If a German-speaking operator or lawyer answers, let them know you'd like to continue in English.

  • If you missed a callback from a lawyer, call the service again and ask the operator to arrange a new consultation.
