How to change the start date of my expat health insurance

Written by Dajana

This article explains how to change the start date of an expat health insurance policy, detailing the conditions under which adjustments are allowed, the process for making changes, refund handling, and limitations after a certain period.

How can I change the start date of my expat health insurance policy?

You can easily change the start date of your expat health insurance policy yourself and received a refund if the policy has not started yet. Changing the start date creates a new policy with the updated date and cancels the original policy automatically. Any applicable refunds will be issued and may take a few working days to reach your bank account.

You can change the start date by following these steps:

  • Go to your Feather account

  • Click on the Expat Policy

  • Select Adjust Policy

  • Complete the steps to buy a new policy with the preferred date

This is the easiest and preferred method to change your start date.

What options do I have if my policy has already started but is within four weeks of the start date?

If your coverage started within the past 4 weeks, follow these steps so we can change the start date and refund the original policy:

  1. Purchase a new expat health insurance policy with your updated start date.

  2. Contact us and ask to speak to an agent, providing us with the new policy number. We will handle the cancelation of the original policy.

  3. Do not cancel the original policy yourself, as doing so affects our ability to issue a refund.

We will then cancel the original policy and issue a refund, provided no claims have been made on it.

Note: If it has also been 14 days or less since you initially purchased your policy, you are within your right of withdrawal and you will automatically receive a refund if you cancel (no need to contact us in that case).

Can I change the start date after four weeks from the policy start date?

You can change the start date if more than four weeks have passed since the policy start date, however a refund is not applicable in these cases.

How can I get assistance if I have questions about changing the policy start date?

You can contact our support team for more assistance or additional resources.
