One of the main differences between our Basic and Advanced dental plans is the benefits offered towards tooth replacement procedures. While the Basic plan offers no additional support beyond what you would receive from your statutory healthcare provider, the Advanced plans provide coverage for this type of dental work in addition to what your public health provider offers.
What are tooth replacement procedures?
The German term for this group of dental treatments is der Zahnersatz, which translates to 'dental prosthesis'. A dental prosthesis is a structure designed to replace or restore one or more damaged or missing teeth. We refer to this group of dental treatments as tooth replacement procedures. The most common examples are:
Crowns
Implants
Bridges
Onlays/Inlays
Veneers
Dentures
How is coverage for tooth replacement procedures calculated?
Our Advanced dental plan offers three options for the level of coverage you can receive towards this type of dental work: 80, 90, or 100%. The option that you choose is the maximum amount you are able to be covered for a tooth replacement procedure between the contribution from your public health provider and the reimbursement from Feather's dental insurance. Your Advanced tariff directly impacts how a reimbursement is calculated if you ever have to make this type of claim.
First, the contribution from your public health provider is taken into account. Then, our supplementary dental insurance will offer an additional reimbursement to bring your total coverage up to the percentage you selected with your Advanced plan. In other words:
(Sum total of tooth replacement procedures x Tariff %) - Public Contribution = Maximum reimbursement from us
Some hypothetical calculations for each tariff option:
Dental plan | Tooth replacement sum total | Public health covers | Our dental insurance covers | Total amount covered | Out-of-pocket Cost |
Advanced 80 | €1200 | €360 (30%) | €600 (50%) | €960 (80%) | €240 |
Advanced 90 | €1890 | €567 (30%) | €1134 (60%) | €1701 (90%) | €189 |
Advanced 100 | €2780 | €695 (25%) | €2085 (75%) | €2780 (100%) | €0 |
*These calculations do not take into account the severity factor assigned by a dentist or your yearly limits for tooth replacement procedures.
