Our liability insurance policy covers you up to 50 million EUR for the accidental damage that you might cause to someone else (bodily injury) or their property.

Are there any limits to the coverage amounts?

Liability insurance is very broad and you're covered for the full amount in most situations. There are, however, a few exceptions where the coverage maximum is limited.

These are:

  • Misfuelling another person's car - if you put the wrong type of fuel in a car that you rented or borrowed from another person, you're covered up to 20,000 EUR

  • School equipment - If you're a full-time student at a school, university, technical college or vocational academy, you're covered for accidental damage to teaching equipment, including machinery, on school property or that's been placed in your care, up to 5,000 EUR, with a maximum compensation of 10,000 EUR per insured event in one insurance year.

  • Loading and unloading a car - If you're the private owner, operator, or driver of a car, you're covered if you cause damages to someone else or their property when you're loading or unloading the car or trailer up to 20,000 EUR
    - Damages to the car or anyone else or their cars is excluded.

  • Liability-related legal protection - If you have to go to court for a claim that has been made against you, you're covered up to 150,000 EUR

Liability insurance pays the current value of the damaged item in the event of a claim as stated in the Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch (Civil Code).

For example, if you drop your friend's camera and it breaks, they'll be reimbursed the value of the camera at the time of the damage.

In some cases, the replacement value can be compensated for as long as the original purchase price isn't above 5,000 EUR. The condition is that the date of the original purchase was no more than 12 months ago.
Excluded from this are mobile devices, computers, laptops, cameras, MP3 players and eyeglasses.
