What happens after I submit a claim for legal insurance coverage?

Once a claim is submitted, Roland begins an evaluation process to determine whether the issue is covered under the legal insurance policy.

You will receive an email from them (usually within 3 business days) with the outcome of the claim attached as a PDF letter. It will either be an approval, a denial, or request for more information/documentation.

Why might Roland request additional documentation during claim evaluation?

Roland may request supporting documents or information such as evidence, letters, or emails related to the issue in order to gather the details necessary to assess coverage eligibility.

How should I respond to requests for additional documentation?

Respond directly to the email from Roland with the documents attached. Requested documents or information should be provided as quickly as possible to help avoid delays in the evaluation process.

What does it mean if my claim approval only covers an initial consultation with an external lawyer?

If Roland approves the claim only for an initial consultation with an external lawyer (separate from the phone consultation), this allows the lawyer to review the legal matter and outline options and strategies. You must independently hire and work with the lawyer. The lawyer may also need to provide Roland with documents or a plan of action if requested.

Taking further legal steps typically requires you to pay the out-of-pocket deductible stated in your contract before the insurer covers lawyer or court costs. If the claim amount is below €250, no deductible is required.

Who chooses the lawyer if my claim is approved?

You have the right to choose your own lawyer. Roland may recommend a lawyer upon request, but does not hire a lawyer on your behalf. You are ultimately responsible for hiring the lawyer for your case

What should I do if my lawyer recommends further legal action after the initial consultation?

If your claim was approved for an initial in‑person consultation and your lawyer believes further legal steps are necessary, Roland needs to review and approve those next steps before additional costs are covered.

There are two easy ways to do this:

  • You can contact Roland directly by replying to the original claim approval email. In your message, explain the next legal steps your lawyer recommends and attach any relevant documents (for example, a legal assessment or action plan).

  • Or your lawyer can contact Roland on your behalf. To do this, simply share the claim approval document you received from Roland with your lawyer. This document includes all the information your lawyer needs to confirm coverage and request approval for continued legal representation.

Once Roland reviews and approves the proposed legal action, coverage can be extended to include further lawyer fees or court costs, subject to your deductible and policy terms.

What are common reasons for claim denial?

Claims are often denied when the legal issue existed before the policy began, when the cause falls within an exclusion period, or when the matter is excluded or limited under the policy (for example, immigration or visa-related issues).

What options do I have if my legal insurance claim is denied?

Even if a claim is denied, you can continue to use phone consultations available through your account for simple legal advice and clarification.
