After you submit a legal insurance claim, our insurance partner (Roland) evaluates whether the issue is covered under your policy and emails you the result, usually within 3 business days. The outcome is an approval, a denial, or a request for more documentation. If your claim is approved for an initial consultation, you choose and hire your own lawyer, and any further legal steps need separate approval and may involve your deductible. If your claim is denied, you can still use the phone consultations included with your account for general legal advice.
What happens after I submit a legal insurance claim?
After you submit a claim, our insurance partner (Roland) evaluates whether the issue is covered under your legal insurance policy. You'll usually receive the result within 3 business days by email, sent as a PDF letter, and this email comes from our insurance partner rather than from us directly. The result will be an approval, a denial, or a request for more information or documentation. You can have your case checked before or after hiring a lawyer, and we recommend doing so beforehand unless the matter is time-sensitive.
What should I do if I'm asked for additional documentation?
Roland may request supporting documents or information, such as evidence, letters, or emails related to your issue, to gather the details needed to assess whether your claim is covered. To respond, reply directly to the email you received with the requested documents attached. Provide the requested information as quickly as possible to help avoid delays in the evaluation.
What does it mean if my claim is approved only for an initial consultation with an external lawyer?
An approval limited to an initial consultation lets an external lawyer review your legal matter and outline your options and possible strategies, separately from the phone consultation included with your policy. You hire and work with this lawyer independently, and the lawyer may need to share documents or a plan of action with Roland if asked. Taking further legal steps usually requires you to first pay the out-of-pocket deductible stated in your contract before lawyer or court costs are covered. If the claim amount is below €250, no deductible applies.
Who chooses the lawyer if my claim is approved?
You have the right to choose your own lawyer for your case. Roland may recommend a lawyer if you ask, but does not hire one on your behalf, so you are responsible for hiring the lawyer yourself.
What should I do if my lawyer recommends further legal action after the initial consultation?
If your claim was approved only for an initial in-person consultation and your lawyer believes further legal steps are needed, those steps must be reviewed and approved before any additional costs are covered. There are two ways to request this approval:
You can contact Roland directly by reply to your original claim approval email, explain the next legal steps your lawyer recommends, and attach any relevant documents, such as a legal assessment or action plan.
Your lawyer can request approval on your behalf using the claim approval document you received, which contains the information needed to confirm coverage and request continued legal representation.
Once the proposed legal action is reviewed and approved by Roland, coverage can be extended to further lawyer fees or court costs, subject to your deductible and policy terms.
Why might my claim be denied?
Claims are often denied for one of the following reasons:
The legal issue existed before your policy began.
The cause falls within an exclusion period under your policy.
The matter is excluded or limited by your policy, such as immigration or visa-related issues.
What can I do if my legal insurance claim is denied?
Even if your claim is denied, you can still use the phone consultations included with your account for simple legal advice and clarification on your situation.
