Covered under public and private health insurance

  • Initial pregnancy check

    Physical exam, and urine and blood tests for the detection of HIV, syphilis, rubella immunity, chlamydia, and determining the blood group

  • Routine monitoring of blood pressure, urine, and weight

  • 3 ultrasound exams (weeks 9–12, 19–22, and 29–32)

  • Gestational diabetes screening: in weeks 24–28

  • 14 hours of birth preparation with a midwife

  • Fetal heart rate monitoring (CTG) – only if medically necessary

  • Birth: Maternity and obstetric care at the location of choice

    In a multi-bed room at a hospital, at home with the help of a midwife, or at a birth center

  • Postnatal care

    20 midwife visits in the first 10 days, and 16 additional visits until week 12.

    10 hours of postnatal exercise within 9 months after the birth.


Additional private health coverage

If you already have a policy with us, you can view your specific benefits in the in-account coverage details. While the exact coverage depends on your plan, here’s a general overview.

  • Extra ultrasounds, Doppler scans, and fetal monitoring (tokography)

  • Comprehensive infection screening

    Toxoplasmosis, CMV, Herpes simplex, Hepatitis A–C, Rubella, Varicella, Parvovirus B19.

  • Advanced genetic testing and counseling

    First-trimester screening with nuchal translucency ultrasound and blood tests.

    Blood tests for β-hCG and PAPP-A.

    If medically necessary: Non-Invasive Prenatal Test (NIPT) up to €495, and chorionic villus sampling (CVS).

  • One-bedroom at the hospital during birth (with some plans)

  • Budget for additional birth preparation & postnatal exercise: up to €4000 per year (with some plans)


Not covered

Neither public nor private health insurance covers:

  • Prenatal yoga

  • Doulas

  • Dietary supplements (like folic acid and vitamins)

  • Birth preparation course for the partner (but some public providers offer a yearly budget)

  • Hospital stay of the partner during birth
