One of the great things about living in Germany is that if you are covered by public health care, then all of your dependents are covered for free. Signing them up is pretty simple.

Please keep in mind: Dependents are only covered for free if they are not earning more than €505/month from any income or €538/month from a mini-job (2024). This applies for both spouses and children.

_________

Update: If you received a TK log-in link via post, you can now sign up your dependents super easily by visiting the following link:

If you did not receive a link via post, or still did not signup for TK, then proceed to the article below.

_________

Here's how it works.

First you need to signup for TK yourself. You can do this easily and in English by using our online 2-minute TK signup.

Shortly after you signup, you will receive an email from us, containing all the instructions on how to add your dependent to your TK policy, so please keep an eye on your inbox.

If for any reason you are not finding that email, here are the full instructions contained in the email:

  1. Fill out the application document required to sign up family members. If you don't know something, leave it blank. TK might reach out to you for more information.

2. Provide the copy of:

  • The registration certificates in Germany from your partner and children (Meldebescheinigung)

  • The passports of your partner and children

  • Any visa/residence permits of your partner and children if they're Non-European citizens

  • Your marriage certificate

  • The birth certificates of your children

  • Pictures of your dependents for their health insurance cards if older than 15 years

3. Send all relevant documents to [email protected].
Set the subject of the email to: “I request preliminary membership certificates for

my dependents. I waive the data privacy to be able to receive it by email."

Preliminary confirmation might be requested if you are applying for visa.

Your family application will be processed after your coverage is confirmed.

Important: If you are in Germany already, and need to get coverage for your child or spouse urgently, it is best to go to a local TK office as they will be able to assist you quickly.
