What do I have to do when I get sick or have an accident on my trip?

Use your European health insurance card for trips to European countries

Your statutory health insurance covers trips to European countries. Please ensure you use your European health insurance card in such cases. You can be attended by public health hospitals and doctors without paying upfront. You just have to present your card.

Seek medical assistance on your trips outside of Europe

If you need to see a doctor, receive treatment, or purchase prescribed medication outside of Europe, you must pay the costs upfront and retain all related documentation.

What if I cannot pay upfront for medical treatment or hospitalization?

If the cost is too high or you require hospitalization, contact the emergency line at +49 40 5555-7877 immediately to arrange payment. Ensure you declare the event promptly.

Submit a claim for reimbursement

Submit your claim via your Feather account.

You can complete this process during or after your trip.

In your account, click on your travel insurance and then on the 'Make a claim' button in the policy details.

Go through the questionnaire and provide all details, and upload the required documents.

What documents are required for a claim submission?

You need to provide:

  • Documentation of your departure and return dates.

  • A brief description of the event.

  • Your personal details

For medical costs:

  • All invoices, receipts, diagnoses, and prescriptions.

For cancellation claims:

  • Provide documentation explaining the cause of cancellation.

  • Include details of original travel plans and any modifications you had to make.

For luggage claims:

  • Submit documentation regarding the incident.

  • Include the report filed with relevant authorities, such as the airline company, hotel, police, or others.

Are there any specific requirements for submitted documents?

Yes, all documents should:

  • Be well readable.

  • Preferably be in English.

  • Display your name and the name of the doctor or hospital.

If you aren't sure if the costs will be covered, you can check the policy documents in your account, the FAQ about coverage, or contact us for advice.

Last step: Wait for payment

We'll get in touch once we've received your claim and let you know when it's been processed and your reimbursement has been sent. This can take up to 4-6 weeks.

We'll follow up with you if we have any questions.

You can review your claim in the claims section of your Feather account.
