As you might have read, health insurance is compulsory when living in Germany. If you live in Germany and don't have health insurance, you should sign up for coverage immediately.

In general, the first step should be to figure out which health insurance is right for you. To determine the best option based on your specific scenario, use our free, digital recommendation tool.

What matters is that you get insured as soon as possible. Depending on your situation, you might be able to start your coverage today. In some cases, you might even have to backdate your insurance start date because of your specific situation like starting a job a couple of weeks prior. Expat health insurance is not possible to be backdated.
