Unfortunately not. The expat health insurance that we offer only meets the requirement for the § 193 (3) VVG.

The § 257 Abs. 2a SGB V is a section of the German Social Security Code that pertains to health insurance coverage for non-EU citizens who intend to reside in Germany.

Expat health insurance provides an accessible and affordable option for health insurance for newcomers in Germany, and is typically accepted for most first time visa applications. However, for those intending to stay in Germany, a more comprehensive and long term health insurance is required. This is what the § 257 Abs. 2a SGB V pertains to.

If your visa or visa renewal is requiring the § 257 Abs. 2a SGB V, then to meet the requirement, you will need full public or private health insurance.

You can use our Health Insurance Tool to help you figure out which health insurance options are best for you based on your situation.

In case you have a visa renewal and are not eligible for public or private health, you can instead consider our long term expat health insurance, which meets the 152 VAG criteria and is therefore still accepted for most visa renewals.

We also have a FAQ here about the different types of visas and which ones expat health insurance will likely meet the health insurance requirement for.
