Our Basic and Advanced legal insurance plans differ across several areas of coverage. The Advanced plan generally offers shorter waiting periods, a longer right of withdrawal period, higher worldwide coverage limits, and broader protection for employment, self-employment, family law, investment, and property disputes. The Basic plan provides more limited coverage in these areas.
How do waiting periods work for claims under the Basic and Advanced legal plans?
Waiting periods for legal insurance claims depend on the area of law that applies to your claim. For employment law disputes, the Basic plan requires a waiting period of 6 months before you can file a claim, while the Advanced plan requires a shorter waiting period of 3 months for the same type of dispute. Waiting periods can vary for other legal areas as well. Refer to our detailed guide for more details on waiting periods per area of law
How long is the right of withdrawal period for the Basic and Advanced legal plans?
The Basic plan provides a right of withdrawal period of 14 days, during which you can cancel the contract and receive a full refund as long as you have not used any insurance service. The Advanced plan provides a longer right of withdrawal period of 60 days under the same condition.
What are the worldwide coverage limits for legal cases outside Germany?
The worldwide coverage limit applies to legal cases that take place outside Germany. The Basic plan covers these cases up to €250,000, and the Advanced plan covers them up to €500,000.
How does coverage differ for disputes with my employer?
For most employment-related legal matters and disputes with your employer, the Basic and Advanced plans provide the same coverage, apart from differences in waiting periods. The main difference applies to claims involving a mutual termination agreement, where coverage is capped at a yearly maximum. The Basic plan covers up to €750 per year, and the Advanced plan covers up to €5,000 per year.
Do the legal plans cover disputes related to self-employment or freelancing?
The Basic plan does not cover legal disputes related to self-employment or freelancing. The Advanced plan covers disputes connected to secondary self-employment or freelancing income up to €22,000 per year. Neither plan covers disputes when self-employment is your primary source of income.
How does coverage for family law disputes differ between the plans?
Family law coverage differs between the two plans for inheritance disputes and for civil partnership or marriage disputes:
Under the Basic plan, both inheritance disputes and civil partnership or marriage disputes are covered up to €250 per case.
Under the Advanced plan, inheritance disputes are covered up to €5,000 per case.
Under the Advanced plan, civil partnership or marriage disputes are covered up to €2,500 per case.
How does coverage for investment and real estate disputes differ between the plans?
The Basic and Advanced plans differ in their coverage for investment disputes and property or real estate disputes:
The Basic plan covers legal disputes involving low-risk investments only, while the Advanced plan also covers disputes involving high-risk investments and assets up to €50,000.
Building and construction disputes are covered up to €5,000 per case under the Advanced plan and are not covered under the Basic plan.
