You can claim some insurance premiums as income-related or special expenses for tax purposes. Different types of insurances have different rules about the possibility of tax deduction.
Public health insurance
These premium payments are tax deductible.
If you are voluntarily insured (pay the contributions yourself), you will receive a certificate from the provider confirming the contributions paid in the previous year. The certificates are sent out from mid-January to the end of February.
If you are mandatorily insured (employee of a German company), you will receive a yearly salary statement at the end of the year from your employer.
Private health insurance
These premium payments are tax deductible. The necessary document will be added to your private health policy in your Feather account when it's ready.
Expat health insurance
These premium payments are tax deductible.
Dental, personal liability, travel, and dog liability insurances
These can be deductible, but the ability to deduct depends on your income. This is determined by the tax office.
